Castaway Sporting Goods, (706-9100), reports Russell Slusser caught a 48-pound, 3-ounce blue cat in the Dutch Gap area; Steven Thompson , 42.8 blue cat, James River; James Salmon , 1-pound rock bass, private pond, Chester. Bass fishing remains hot near the Dutch Gap area. Crappie fish still is going well. The next tournament is July 26, Osbourne Landing. About 100 boats are expected.

FRESHWATER: Try the Butler Chain for plenty of bass. Most fish are 1-pound or smaller and can be caught in grassy waters on plastic toads, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. If you find a big group of fish staging in the area you are fishing, try using the fly rod. Panfish can be caught in good numbers near vegetation. Cricket, redworms and doughballs all are effective.
